Last month Eagles class (Year 5) entered a competition run by the International Astronomical Union to name a star and a planet. They chose names and wrote a short paragraph to explain their choices. They then voted for the name they wanted to put forward to the competition, and chose Thistle and Poppy.
Eagles class (Y5) has now beaten over 1000 other entries to get through to the final of this National competition along with 9 other entries.
The final is a public vote. Eagles would love to have their choice of names used for this star and planet. It will also be recorded that Thistle and Poppy were nominated by Mytchett Primary School.
